In this ebook download of Walking in the Dust of Rabbi Jesus, Lois Tverberg challenges readers to follow their Rabbi more closely by re-examining his words in the light of their Jewish context. Doing so will provide a richer, deeper understanding of his ministry, compelling us to live differently, to become more Christ-like. We’ll begin to understand why his first Jewish disciples abandoned everything to follow him, to live out his commands. Our modern society, with its individualism and materialism, is very different than the tight-knit, family-oriented setting Jesus lived and taught in. What wisdom can we glean from his Eastern, biblical attitude toward life? How can knowing Jesus within this context shed light on his teachings for us today? In Walking in the Dust of Rabbi Jesus we’ll journey back in time to eavesdrop on the conversations that arose among the rabbis of Jesus’ day, and consider how hearing Rabbi Jesus with the ears of a first-century disciple can bring new meaning to our faith. And we’ll listen to Jewish thinkers through the ages, discovering how ideas that germinated in Jesus’ time have borne fruit over time. Doing so will yield fresh, practical insights for following our Rabbi’s teachings from a Jewish point of view.

Beginning with the Gospels, interpretations of the life of Jesus have flourished for nearly two millennia, yet a clear and coherent picture of Jesus as a man has remained elusive. In Rabbi Jesus, the noted biblical scholar Bruce Chilton places Jesus within the context of his times to present a fresh, historically accurate, and revolutionary examination of the man who founded Christianity. Drawing on recent archaeological findings and new translations and interpretations of ancient texts, Chilton discusses in enlightening detail the philosophical and psychological foundations of Jesus’ ideas and beliefs. His in-depth investigation also provides evidence that contradicts long-held beliefs about Jesus and the movement he led. Chilton shows, for example, that the High Priest Caiaphas, as well as Pontius Pilate, played a central role in Jesus’ execution. It is, however, Chilton’s description of Jesus’ role as a rabbi, or "master," of Jewish oral traditions, as a teacher of the Cabala, and as a practitioner of a Galilean form of Judaism that emphasized direct communication with God that casts an entirely new light on the origins of Christianity. Seamlessly merging history and biography, this penetrating, highly readable book uncovers truths lost to the passage of time and reveals a new Jesus for the new millennium.

This is the forth book in this series that began with an in-depth look at how God views details, communicates with this world, and decides what process to use. Of course this series of books looked at aspects recorded in scripture about the Tabernacle. How the materials were collected, specific design details, who did the work, and how the Tabernacle was constructed. Much of that information is found in dozens, maybe hundreds of other books about the Tabernacle. But there are details setting this book apart from every other book written about the Tabernacle. This book takes a verse by verse, story by story, chapter by chapter look at the Tabernacle. In other words, this book presents a picture of the Tabernacle from God's point of view. Which the beginning of this series pointed out, is much different than any human perspective.

Has the Christian faith lost its way because it has cut itself loose from its Hebrew roots? Faith, love, witness, and discipleship--the basic tenets of our faith--come from a world very foreign to the stoic philosophy developed through the early centuries of Christendom to the Church today. Christianity is actually a desert faith, forged through the fires of experience, relationship, and a naturally supernatural walk with the Creator of all things. Just as Jesus walked close to his original disciples and believed that they could be like him, we too are called to walk close to our God and like them to "turn our world upside down." Joseph Gisbey's Follow steps back in time to the authentic world of Jesus and demonstrates with a passion that the same adventures we read about in the pages of the book of Acts can be written on the pages of our 21st-century lives.

This book will guide the reader through a variety of passages of Scripture recorded in the Gospel of Luke that placed Jesus at the dinner table. The stories represented in the passages of Scripture demonstrate a number of situations into which Jesus was either thrust, or into which he placed himself. My desire with this book is to encourage the reader to come back to what is important—the table—but more crucially to recognize the importance of engaging people around a proverbial table with whom you may not normally associate. The purpose of this book is to challenge your thinking as a believer regarding people’s needs and how you might meet them, and to challenge your view of contemporary Christianity and the hypocrisy with which we are so often accused. Finally, I hope to make Jesus’s table talk a welcome part of your faith and life as a believer.

Through the years, our understanding of Jesus has been shaped by different cultural influences, and many Christians have forgotten that Jesus was a Jewish man living in a Jewish land, observing Jewish customs, and investing his life into Jewish men and women. Trading the popular, but inaccurate Western perspective of the Bible for the context in which Jesus actually ministered in 2000 years ago, author Robby Gallaty reveals the fascinating Hebraic culture, customs, and nuances many Christians have never experienced or learned about. By uncovering the teaching of the first and second century rabbis and Christian theologians, and highlighting little-known Jewish idioms and traditions, Gallaty takes Christians on a biblical journey to rediscover a forgotten Jesus from a biblical perspective, deepening your relationship with God.

Jesus the Jew, Christ the King unites biblical scholarship with established theology. Oftentimes, scholars distinguish between the historical Jesus and the Christ of faith, suggesting that Christian belief has elevated Jesus of Nazareth from the common life of an itinerant Jewish rabbi to a divine figure akin to the heroes of Greco-Roman culture. James Mikolajczyk evaluates both the historical Jesus and the Christ of faith separately before uniting the concepts for academics and believers alike. The definition of Israel connects to this harmony, although many theologians apply it exclusively to the church or to the Jewish people. In keeping with Christian tradition, Mikolajczyk affirms Jesus as the only begotten Son of God and, moreover, the fulfillment of scriptural Israel.

This is the blueprint for living out the first-century supernatural life! — Sid Roth, host of It’s Supernatural! Lost for centuries, this ancient text is the believer’s key to unlocking the supernatural lifestyle of first-century believers. In the book of Acts, we glimpse the world-changing community marked by passion, authenticity, and supernatural power that was the early Church. How did the early church cultivate these kinds of powerful believers? Where does the modern church fall short? And what if you could access the early Church’s discipleship manual? Picture it: While browsing the stacks of a dimly lit library in the cavernous corridors of an Middle Eastern monastery, a young Greek Orthodox cleric stumbles upon a fragile parchment manuscript, containing ancient wisdom. The cleric’s name was Philotheos Bryennios, the year was 1873, the place was Istanbul, Turkey, and the incredible document he found was called the Didache, or “the Teaching.” The Didache is a transformative step-by-step training program for new believers, and offers a window into the faith and practice of the earliest Gentile disciples, when Christianity was still within the fold of Messianic Judaism. Written for a culture where individuals had no knowledge of Jesus or the gospel, the Didache’s timeless instruction is especially applicable for our current, postchristian era. Ancient Blueprints for the Supernatural contains the full text of the Didache along with extensive, revelatory commentary and application from Drs. Dennis and Jen Clark. You will: Discover how to live as a holy vessel in a godless society. Enter a new way of life that reveals Jesus of Nazareth to the world. Access the miraculous lifestyle that Jesus made possible through the Cross. Experience the presence and power of God through ancient practices such as persistent prayer, communion, baptism, and more. Gain wisdom for discerning false teaching and doctrine that obscures the fullness of God’s life and power. Uncover the Biblical definition of “The One New Man,” and what it means for you. Learn to live in watchful preparation for the Messiah’s return. Unleash the timeless wisdom of the Didache into your life, and begin walking in the world-changing footsteps of the early church.

In many modern histories of Christian missions, the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century is depicted as a movement lacking missionary zeal. It has virtually become a given that the Reformation was not oriented to the church’s missionary task. In order to win our neighbors for Christ, Wes Bredenhof answers these charges, proving that it is a mistake to say the Reformation and the confessional documents it produced have nothing to say about missions. the author demonstrates that the three forms of Unity—the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort — properly understood, have much to off err the study of missions. more importantly, they encourage us to care about a world lost in unbelief, making us more mission oriented and outward looking.

The Holy Wedding is a six-week study revealing God's original intent to have a people in which He could share His love through an intimate relationship-like a marriage. God's design would eventually lead to a holy wedding between Himself and His people. We pick up the thread of this beautiful picture in Genesis and follow it through all the way to Revelation. The Bible employs various imagery in describing God's people, but the most intimate and affection portrayal is that of a bride. Realizing God loves His bride passionately, emotionally, longingly, protectively, faithfully, and jealously is essential because it is transforming. A power is awakened when our hearts are assured that we are deeply loved as there is no fear in love; perfect love drives out fear (1 John 4:18). This is a love to be cherished! I hope you will join me in exploring the magnificent story of Christ and His Bride as we anticipate the day that we will behold our Bridegroom face-to-face.

Like the Roman Empire, today's governments or organizations can become centered on power and believe their messages are the "good news." As Christians, we're called to proclaim God’s name in all the earth (1 Chronicles 16:8), but how do we to do that in the midst of false gospels? In this fifteenth volume of That The World May Know®, discover how Paul communicated the Good News of Christ to Philippi, a Roman colony that worshipped false gods.
