He may be a player, but this stud’s not shooting blanks. NICK I'm nobody's baby daddy. I don't care how many stunning women throw themselves at me, looking to turn one hot night into an eighteen-year paycheck. I've got way too much on the line to throw it away for one night of pleasure. Ball is life, and basketball is my first priority. I've got a championship to win. But when I see that familiar face shaking her pom-poms on the sidelines, I’m transported back to childhood, Back to the days before a fiery plane crash ripped us apart, forcing us to grow up overnight. Those were the days when Eden Evans stole my heart. This time, I might be ready to give it right back to her. EDEN I have no interest in a man who comes with groupies. With a rock legend for a father, I’ve seen the toll fame takes on a marriage. The last thing I need is a guy with more Twitter followers than Justin Beiber. So when Nick Barnes dribbles his way back into my life, my heart and head go into battle. I can't fight my desire for the sexy baller with his eight-pack abs and panty-dropping charm. And when that little stick shows an unmistakable plus sign, suddenly, everything is on the line. With a secret baby on the way, will Nick realize that having the home court advantage is what he's wanted all along? Note: This is a standalone romance novel with a HEA and no cliffhangers. Light on basketball and heavy on steamy romance, this is the first book featuring members of the Barnes family.

Even before the desegregation of the military and public education and before blacks had full legal access to voting, racial barriers had begun to fall in American sports. This collection of essays shows that for many African Americans it was the world of athletics that first opened an avenue to equality and democratic involvement. Race and Sport showcases African Americans as key figures making football, baseball, basketball, and boxing internationally popular, though inequalities still exist today. Among the early notables discussed is Fritz Pollard, an African American who played professional football before the National Football League established a controversial color barrier. Another, the boxer Sugar Ray Robinson, exemplifies the black American athlete as an international celebrity. African American women also played an important role in bringing down the barriers, especially in the early development of women's basketball. In baseball, both African American and Hispanic players faced down obstacles and entered the sports mainstream after World War II. One essay discusses the international spread of American imperialism through sport. Another shows how mass media images of African American athletes continue to shape public perceptions. Although each of these six essays explores a different facet of sports in America, together they comprise an analytical examination of African American society's tumultuous struggle for full participation both on and off the athletic field.

The acclaimed author of Breath, Eyes, Memory presents an anthology of personal essays by Hilton Als, Christopher Hitchens, Zadie Smith and others. In her selection process for this sterling volume, Edwidge Danticat considers the inherent vulnerability of the essay form—a vulnerability that seems all the more present in today’s spotlighted public square. As she says in her introduction, “when we insert our ‘I’ (our eye) to search deeper into someone, something, or ourselves, we are always risking a yawn or a slap, indifference or disdain.” Here are intimate personal essays that examine a range of vital topics, from cancer diagnosis to police brutality, and from devastating natural disasters to the dilemmas of modern medicine. All in all, “the brave voices behind these experiences keep the pages turning” (Kirkus Reviews). The Best American Essays 2011 includes entries by Hilton Als, Katy Butler, Toi Derricotte, Christopher Hitchens, Pico Iyer, Charlie LeDuff, Chang-Rae Lee, Lia Purpura, Zadie Smith, Reshma Memon Yaqub, and others.

A gift-worthy playbook of common and unexpected words and idioms that have their roots in sports and games. There are many metaphors we can quickly identify from the realm of sports: covering all the bases (baseball), game plan (football), and par for the course (golf). But the English language is also peppered with the not-so-obvious influence of sports and games, such as go-to guy (basketball) and dead ringer (horse racing). Filled with pithy entries on each idiom, plus quotes showing how big talkers from President Obama to rapper Ice-T use them, this quirky little handbook from former minor league ballplayer and award-winning journalist Josh Chetwynd is sure to be a conversation starter at tailgates, cocktail parties, and in the boardroom.

At one point or another, we’ve all been targeted or victimized by a Super Deceiver. Even as you are reading the cover of this book, unbeknownst to you, there is a very strong chance that someone you are very familiar with is lying, cheating, hustling or deceiving you. It is very possible that you are doing the same thing to someone else without you fully understanding the spiritual ramifications it holds. In spite of having as its primary instructional tool, the best-selling book [The Bible] of all times, today’s Christians are in an identity crisis — we are in perilous times! And as we continue to live in perilous times, the explosive growth in WEALTH, the POPULARITY of people, places and things, the unencumbered SENSUALITY displayed in various forms, the charm and CHARISMA of people who are Christian in name only, and people who are adept at manipulating FEAR tactics to paralyze or channel a person’s movement, has allowed an insidious platform for Super Deceivers to thrive. Like a CHAMELEON, who is capable of changing colors and appearances based on the environment it has settled into, a Super Deceiver does it in order to wreak havoc on you, your relationships, your finances, and your purpose. Now is the time to understand and reclaim your identity, your purpose, and your influence as a true believer and follower of Jesus Christ, so that you, too, can expose and counter the five faces of a Super Deceiver.

Norhem and So’hem share their continent, with more than just the mountain range dividing them. Both Norhem and So’hem believe they are the true followers of the one true god; the problem is, they worship two different gods. They both use fear of the other to control their people, which is the least of their problems. Norhem is their own worst enemy because they study religion instead of scientific facts and scientific reality, which is enforced by theocratic law. So’hem remains their own worst enemy when they choose to steal from Norhem rather than solving problems.
