Molly Drummond is cursed: whenever a dog barks, she turns into a hare -- which can make life quite dangerous... So she does the sensible thing and attends a curse-lifting workshop, run by a local witch. There she meets other cursed creatures: Innes, a kelpie; Beth, a dryad; Atacama, a sphinx; and a toad. But should they work together to lift their various curses? Or are they better off on their own? And will the crow-man, who draws on the energy of curses, destroy their chances to live a normal life? A practical and accessible guide with everything you need to know to craft and cast spells that really work. A spell, which some refer to as a Witch’s prayer, is something nearly anyone can learn. One does not need to be initiated into any mystery cults, swear an oath of dedication to any god or goddess, denounce or convert to any religion, or even wear the label of a Witch or Wiccan in order to be a spell crafter. But among the things that are required, the most important ones are an open mind, true desire, and the will, patience, self-conviction, and courage to follow what is within one’s heart, and the maturity to take responsibility for one’s own actions. Once you gain an understanding of how magickal energy works and learn the secrets to casting spells, you will be able to tap into your inner powers, focus, and direct them utilizing simple items found in the average home or easily purchased at the nearest occult shop. In fact, many of the herbs and other ingredients called for in spells can be found right in your very own kitchen! The casting of spells is an ancient art that has played an important role in many of the cultures and religions throughout the world. This book is designed to be a guide to the history, philosophy, ethics, and practical application of spell crafting. Written with the novice-to-intermediate student in mind, it covers all areas of folk magick in an explorative and unbiased manner.

A stirring, witty, and poignant glimpse into the bewildering American immigrant experience from someone who has lived it. Also, a mirror held up to America. Into the maelstrom of unprecedented contemporary debates about immigrants in the United States, this perfectly timed book gives us a portrait of what the new immigrant experience in America is really like. Written as a "guide" for the newly arrived, and providing "practical information and advice," Roya Hakakian, an immigrant herself, reveals what those who settle here love about the country, what they miss about their homes, the cruelty of some Americans, and the unceasing generosity of others. She captures the texture of life in a new place in all its complexity, laying bare both its beauty and its darkness as she discusses race, sex, love, death, consumerism, and what it is like to be from a country that is in America's crosshairs. Her tenderly perceptive and surprisingly humorous account invites us to see ourselves as we appear to others, making it possible for us to rediscover our many American gifts through the perspective of the outsider. In shattering myths and embracing painful contradictions that are unique to this place, A Beginner's Guide to America is Hakakian's candid love letter to America.

Have you ever just wanted to sit down and read something about God or Jesus just to get closer to him to know him more intimately or to expand your understanding of his creation and plan for you? So you find a book that advertises just the subject matter you are interested in, then you open it and begin to read, but before long, you realize you have to run and get the dictionary. Then you may have to purchase a dictionary of theology, then maybe an encyclopedia of Christian apologetics just to understand what you are reading. When this happens, readers often give up on the book and never finish it and may never buy another one. It can get discouraging when confronted with terminology like infralapsarianism, hamartiology, and demythologization, and that doesn't include the hundreds of nontheological words rarely used in common communication today. Authors write this way to keep the book from becoming the size of an encyclopedia. However, I did buy all those books and persevered in study because of my great hunger for the deeper things of God. Now you can too because this book conveys these wonderful biblical thoughts and great theologians' writings into plain common language. The Doctrine of Salvation takes deep theological concepts and brings their understanding down to a street level as it were. This book describes on a practical level how these doctrines are to be applied to our lives and how we can relate them to others. I refrain from using thirteen-letter words, but if they are needed, I will use them and then immediately clarify their meaning so the reader will not lose their train of thought. Enjoy reading about the wonders of God again, in greater depth!

Mike Dooley, the beloved creator of Notes from the Universe, distills a career's worth of inspiration into elegant, brief lessons for making our way through the world--conceived as a guidebook for his young daughter to read when she grows up, yet relevant to everyone who's living a life on earth. Mike returns with his most impactful book yet: a volume of almost 500 insights drawn from his 20+ years as a New Thought leader, organized between endearing letters that recall poignant moments of fatherhood. Through books, courses, and live events, Mike has engaged students with his trademark humor, wisdom, and sheer joy in living. He speaks of understanding our innate spirituality and personal responsibility as the means to unlocking our power over the illusions of time and space. A Beginner's Guide to the Universe is filled with gem-like bits of wisdom imparting his most essential, heartfelt advice about living deliberately and creating consciously--comparable to such treasures as Life's Little Instruction Book, The Prophet, and The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down. Cleverly guiding the reader through a range of topics--including family and relationships, power and responsibility, adversity and rebounding, even the nature of heaven, angels, and God--Mike succeeds in making a happy life in this universe seem easily within our reach. The short passages of text placed artfully on each page, in a book that's a pleasure to hold in the hand, make this an ideal gift for a parent, a parent-to-be, a child, a new grad, a dear friend, or anyone who needs a dose of Dooley, whether they know it or not.

In this definitive introduction to the work of C. G. Jung, Dr. Robertson explains how Jung reintroduced Westerners to the world of archetypes--the imagery of the collective unconscious, of mythology, and the symbols in nature. He discusses the structure and dynamics of the psyche, the meaning of dreams, the shadow, the anima/animus, and the mysterious figure of the Self. This practical yet inspiring introduction can make Jung's exciting philosophy/psychology part of your life.
